19世紀のステレオスコープの仕組みにピクセルアートを取り入れ、覗き込むことで立体像を楽しめる視覚装置です。左右の眼用にわずかなズレを持たせた2次元のドット絵が、専用ビューアーを通すことで、ボクセルとは異なる独特の立体像として浮かび上がります。
プレ・シネマの原理を現代に蘇らせるメディア考古学の実践であると同時に、メディアアートの文脈と、サブカルチャーに根ざしたピクセルアートの文化を横断する試みでもあります。手に取って覗き込めるポータブルな作りで、展示空間に限らず、イベントやショップなど、さまざまな場所で見ることができます。
A viewing device that brings pixel art into the mechanism of the nineteenth-century stereoscope, offering a three-dimensional image to anyone who looks inside. Two-dimensional pixel drawings, offset slightly for the left and right eye, rise through a dedicated viewer into a solid image unlike anything built from voxels.
It is an exercise in media archaeology, reviving a pre-cinema principle in the present, and at the same time an attempt to cross between the context of media art and the culture of pixel art rooted in subculture. Small enough to be picked up and looked into, it can be seen not only in exhibition spaces but in all kinds of places, from events to shops.
